President Donald Trump spoke to reporters at the White House on January 13 before departing for Detroit, where he is scheduled to deliver remarks at the Detroit Economic Club.
Trump praised what he called strong economic growth and very low inflation, saying the latest data should allow the Federal Reserve to consider interest rate cuts. He also touted falling crime rates in cities including Chicago, Washington D.C., New Orleans, and Memphis, crediting stepped-up deportations and immigration enforcement.
Trump criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, attacked Democratic governors, and said his administration is removing criminals who entered the U.S. under what he called the Biden administration’s open border policies.
